When Emily Mann was 12 years old she witnessed people being beaten by policemen during the year of 1965. Most of Emily’s family had died in the Holocaust, and in 1979 the KKK and the Nazis descended on a Klan in a black area in Greensboro several were shot but 5 died. Seeing all of this violence, Emily wanted to make others aware of what was going on by publishing an article in a paper. Since she was rejected, Emily decided to portray her feelings about how she felt this affects people in their daily lives. The best way that she could portray this was in the musical theatre in Greensboro, where she was able to talk about the murders in her neighborhood and how crucial they were.
